
Strickland, Romero Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Kyle Strickland (football) and Alexa Romero (softball) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 13.

Romero is a selected studies major who is following the "post-secondary and human services fields" track in the School of Education. She's also working toward a minor in psychology. Romero is a peer advisor in the School of Education, a member of Syracuse's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and has earned a spot on the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester she's been at Syracuse.

The Aurora, Colorado, native earned four wins and a save in 14 appearances in the shortened 2020 season. Her 66 strikeouts tied for eighth in the ACC. She gave up just one hit per inning and her 25 strikeouts looking were the third-most in the conference. Romero saw most of her action in the circle during this year's USF Tournament, tossing 16 innings and fanning 27 batters in three appearances. She went on to strike out eight more batters in the final game of the weekend to help Syracuse to the tournament title.

Syracuse's 2020 season lasted only 20 games, coming to an end due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The Orange ended the campaign with a 10-10 record, but achieved some memorable moments along the way. In addition to the USF Tournament crown, Syracuse picked up an ACC series win against North Carolina and recorded two walk-off victories.

Strickland is an advertising major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and is also pursuing a minor in psychology. He's twice earned spots on the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

The Roswell, Georgia, native was a reserve cornerback throughout his career. A redshirt junior for the Orange in 2019, Strickland appeared in 30 games from 2017-19 and was a mainstay on the kickoff team. He made seven career tackles, including three on special teams.
