Robinson, Hofrichter Selected on Third Day of 2020 NFL Draft

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse defensive end Alton Robinson and punter Sterling Hofrichter both had their names called on the third day of the 2020 NFL Draft. Robinson was taken in the fifth round (No. 148 overall) by the Seattle Seahawks, while Hofrichter was picked in the seventh round (No. 228 overall) by the Atlanta Falcons.
Robinson is the fifth Syracuse defensive lineman drafted since 2010, joining Arthur Jones (2010), Chandler Jones (2012), Jay Bromley (2014) and Chris Slayton (2019). Hofrichter, who succeeded 2016 NFL draftee Riley Dixon, is the third Orange punter to be selected. Coincidentally, Hofrichter and Dixon were both taken off the board with the 228th pick in their respective drafts.

Robinson earned All-ACC honors in two of his three seasons at Syracuse. He finished his career seventh in school history with 19.5 sacks and tied for ninth with 32.5 tackles for loss. In 36 career games (34 starts) from 2017-19, Robinson carded 115 tackles, including 46 as a senior.

A four-year starter and three-time Syracuse captain, Hofrichter received All-America honors from seven different selectors in 2019 and was one of the three finalists for the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter. He ranked third in the FBS in net average (43.03) and led the ACC in touchback percentage (2.9). Hofrichter closed his career as Syracuse's all-time leader in punting yardage (11,651). Additionally, he's the only player in program history to earn multiple All-ACC First Team honors (2018, 2019).

A total of 199 Orange standouts have been picked in the NFL Draft since the league's first annual selection meeting in 1936. With the selection of Robinson and Hofrichter today, the Orange have now had at least one player drafted in 42 of the last 45 years dating back to 1976.
