Two more major announcements on Thursday paved the way for a host of former Orange stars to suit up in their respective professional leagues this summer.
Major League Lacrosse announced it will hold a nine-day tournament this summer in Annapolis, Maryland and 22-man rosters were announced for the Premier Lacrosse League Championship Series that will begin at the end of July.
The PLL, which features nine former Syracuse players in the league as either a player or a coach, will see five former 'Cuse standouts heading to Utah. 2017 ACC Midfielder of the Year Sergio Salcido (Chaos), two-time USILA Goaltender of the Year John Galloway (Chrome) and former All-American Jeremy Thompson (Atlas) will make their way as players, while Ric Beardsley and Steven Brooks will head to Utah as members of the Atlas' coaching staff.
The tournament will feature limited rosters and some players opted out of the event prior to the roster selection process as well. Kevin Rice, JoJo Marasco, Brandon Mullins and Joel White will not be making the trip with their respective teams.
The MLL publicly announced its plans to play a season this year on Thursday as well. While rosters are yet to be announced, the Orange are well represented in the league. The number soared even higher when Nick Mellen was taken by the Boston Cannons in the first round of this year's entry draft. SU led all schools with five MLL All-Stars last season and Bradley Voigt's breakout rookie campaign had him on the ballot for Rookie of the Year.
