As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Virginia Tech in the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Jan. 23 (noon, RSN/YES), we continue our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with sophomore forward Quincy Guerrier.
How did you get the nickname "Candyman?"
It started five years ago when my coach from high school tweeted something about the movie "Candyman." At the time I was starting to really play well, including making a lot of 3-pointers. In the movie, if you say "Candyman" five times, the main character appears. My coach also knew I loved candy—so he put it all together and called me Candyman.
Comparing your freshman year to your sophomore season, what are the biggest differences in your game?
I feel like I am playing smarter and my defense has improved. My shot has also gotten better.
You are by no means the tallest player on the team, yet you lead the squad in rebounding average. What is the primary reason for your success?
I think its my energy, moving my feet faster and always playing physical.
Your free-throw percentage has jumped significantly this year, from .606 last year to .745. What do you credit for that improvement?
Shooting free throws after practice! I usually shoot between 50 and 100 free throws after every practice.
 Â
Nickname: Candyman
Favorite TV Show: Stranger Things
Favorite Movie: Gran Torino
Favorite video game:Â Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Who is the best dressed person on the team? Kadary (Richmond) is probably up there -- and myself.
