
Orange Battle at #3 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Senior Polina Shemanova recorded 17 kills and two service aces in Syracuse's 3-0 loss at #3 Louisville on Sunday. The Orange (14-4 overall, 3-3 ACC) forced extra points in the first and second sets, forcing extra points.
"I thought we played well today," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "We couldn't close out the sets, but this was a very good game compared to Friday. As we look forward, the teams are very good across the whole ACC. We will need to bring this type of energy and passion into our play. The result was unfortunate, but that's the reason they are. number three in the country."
In the first set, the Orange jumped out to a 7-3 lead behind three kills by Shemanova. Louisville used a 5-0 run to tie the set at 16 before the Orange took a 24-22 lead. The Cardinals then rallied to score four straight points to win the first set, 26-24. In the second set, after Louisville opened 7-3 lead, Syracuse battled back to take a 13-12 lead, punctuated by a kill by freshman Diana Akopova. After the Cardinals used an 8-3 run to open a 20-16 advantage, Syracuse came back to be the first team to set point at with the score 24-23, but the Cardinals scored three in a row for the 26-24 win. The Cardinals controlled the third set and won 25-18 to take the match.

- Senior Elena Karakasi led the Orange with 30 assists.
