#6 Syracuse Handed First ACC Loss by #16 Virginia

Syracuse, N.Y. --Â Sixth-ranked Syracuse lost to #16 Virginia on Friday night, 2-1. The loss snaps the Orange's nine-game winning streak.Â
After neither team scored in the first half, Syracuse (11-3 overall, 4-1 ACC) dominated the third quarter taking six shots to the Cavaliers' two. In the 45th minute, Virginia's Danielle Husar scored a goal to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead at the close of the third quarter. Virginia (8-6, 4-2) added to its lead in the 54th minute when Noa Boterman scored to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead. Syracuse's Laura Graziosi brought Syracuse to within one, 2-1, converting a penalty stroke with less than five minutes to play to close out the scoring.

The Orange out-shot the Cavaliers 15-8 and held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners. Goalkeeper Brooke Borzymowski recorded two saves.

The Orange return to action next Friday at No. 4 Louisville for their  final ACC game of the season.
