Orange Defeat the Dragons

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Buddy Boeheim tallied a game-high 23 points and led Syracuse, (2-0) to a 75-60 victory against Drexel (1-1) on Sunday in the Dome.

Four of the five Orange starters recorded double-digit points. In addition to Buddy Boeheim's total, Jimmy Boeheim contributed 14 points and both Cole Swider and Joseph Girard III each tallied 11 points.Â

Mate Okros lead the Dragons offense with 16 points and five rebounds. Okros made his first three 3-pointers and finished 4-of-7 from behind the arc for the Dragons.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
The Orange trailed at the intermission, 33-31, but started the second half with a 16-6 charge keyed by Swider and Girard. Swider ignited the stretch with a 3-pointer and both he and Girard had five points during the four-plus minute turnaround. Syracuse emerged with a 48-39 advantage and did not trail again.

"Drexel is a really well-coached team. They move the ball well," said head coach Jim Boeheim. "I thought we had a very good second half of basketball. Our defense was very strong, and they created a lot of turnovers."

A HEAD TURNING HALF
A back-and-forth first half led to six lead changes throughout the period. After Drexel opened the contest with a 3-pointer, Buddy Boeheim started a 12-3 run for the Orange offense with eight points, including a pair of three pointers. Trailing 12-6, the Dragons answered by scoring nine of the next 12 points to pull within one. The first 20-minutes remained a see-saw battle. Camren Wynter's buzzer-beating jumper gave Drexel a 33-32 lead entering halftime.
