Dragon leads the way in 55th
The 'Cuse men ran to their rank, posting their best finish since 2017 in a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at Florida State.
Senior Joe Dragon was the Orange's top finisher, taking 55th overall in 29:42.5. He was followed closely by teammates JP Trojan (30:00.4) and Aidan Tooker (30:06.4) in 78th and 90th, respectively. Matthew Scrape (30:21.3) and Alex Comerford (31:38.8) were the remaining scorers for 'Cuse, while Brody Smith (32:46.9) and Joey Eovaldi (34:27.5) rounded out the men's competitors.
As a team, SU collected 502 points.
The Orange women were without a pair of their top runners from prior meets, including NCAA Northeast Regional Champion and third-place finisher at the ACC Championships Amanda Vestri. Holly Bent was also unable compete for 'Cuse.
Freshman Savannah Roark was Syracuse's top finisher on the women's side, crossing the line in 161st place. She traversed the 6k course in 20:51.9. Abigail Spiers was the team's second finisher in 20:55.9, followed by Annie Boos (21:11.3), Reilly Zink (21:14.2) Sydney Nowicki (21:16.0), Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (21:18.4) and Justus Holden Betts (22:113.8).
As a team, 'Cuse collected 768 points and finished 30th overall. Six of the seven competitors in today's race for the women have eligibility remaining. In a season where the Orange women returned to the championship meet for the first time since 2017, the future appears bright for the group.
The Orange turn their attention to the track now, with indoor season set to start in two weeks.
