Orange Lose to #23 USF at Battle 4 Atlantis

Syracuse (2-2) lost to No. 23 South Florida (3-1), 77-53, in the first game of the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis on Saturday afternoon. Christianna Carr led all scorers with 14 points while Eboni Walker had a team-best seven rebounds. 'Cuse will face Minnesota at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21. Fans can watch live on FloHoops.Â
The Orange started out strong taking an 8-7 lead midway through the opening frame and led 18-13 at the end of the first.Â
Eboni Walker's driving layup made it 20-13 to start the second quarter but USF responded with a three-pointer by Sydni Harvey to cut the game to four at 8:43. South Florida used a 12-2 run to extend it's lead to six with just over three minutes to go in the first half.Â
At halftime, the Bulls led by seven, 33-26, and were led by Bethy Mununga's 12 points and nine rebounds. Syracuse's Najé Murray nine points shooting four-for-seven from the field.Â
USF outscored Syracuse 25-18 in the third quarter despite the Orange having a better shooting performance improving to 46.7 percent in the stanza.Â
Syracuse trailed by as many as 19 in the third quarter but were able to cut it to a 14 point deficit, 58-44, thanks to a three-pointer by Jayla Thornton followed by a driving layup from Alaysia Styles.Â
USF used a 792 run to go ahead by as many as 20 early in the final quarter of regulation. Syracuse battled back and cut it to 15 but South Florida was able to extend its lead back to win by 24 points.Â
The Orange return to action Sunday for the second day of the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis. 'Cuse will face off with Minnesota, who lost its first game to No. 2 UConn, 88-58, in the Women's Battle 4 Atlantis opener earlier Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. on FloHoops.
