
Five Orange Named to All-ACC Field Hockey Team

Syracuse (12-4, 4-2 ACC) was tied for a league-high five selections on the All-ACC Field Hockey Teams, announced Wednesday by the league office. Quirine Comans and Pleun Lammers were named All-ACC First Team while Charlotte de Vries, Carolin Hoffmann and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof earned second team honors. Louisville also had five selections which included the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year. North Carolina's Erin Matson was named Offensive Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career, which ties an ACC record.
Lammers appeared in 11 regular season games for the No. 9 Orange and scored eight goals while adding four assists to rank second on the team in points (20). She leads the team in game-winning goals with three and had two multi-goal games this season against Sacred Heart (3 goals, 1 assist) and Columbia (2 goals). She tallied a point in all but four games she appeared in this season and was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31. Lammers was an All-ACC Second Team honoree as a redshirt freshman in 2020.
Comans has elevated the Syracuse offense this season. The graduate student from The Hague, Netherlands leads Syracuse with nine goals and eight assists for a team-best 26 points and has appeared in all 16 games for the Orange. She was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 after a 1-1 week for the Orange at No. 8 Rutgers and No. 12 UConn. Comans has scored in seven games and recorded a point in 10 of 16 games for the Orange this season. She has twice scored the game-winning goal and has two multi-goal games this season (UConn and Cornell). Comans had a career-high three assists in Syracuse's 5-0 win over North Carolina on Oct. 1.
De Vries, a two-time All-ACC First Team selection in her career, lands on the All-ACC Second Team as a junior. The Pennsylvania native played and started in all 14 games for the top-10 Orange after missing the first two games due to a Team USA commitment for the Junior Pan American Championship in late August. De Vries tallied six goals and added two assists for 14 points this season. She scored a goal in three of Syracuse's ACC games this season including the game-winning goal at No. 3 Boston College on Sept. 17. De vries, a two-time NFHCA All-American, scored in six different games and twice had a goal and an assist in a Syracuse win (at #12 UConn and at #23 Duke).
Graduate student Carolin Hoffmann earns All-ACC honors for the second time in her career at SU. Hoffmann previously was named to the first time as a junior in 2019. Hoffmann's play in the midfield this season hasn't gone unnoticed. She was named NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 after being named ACC Defensive Player of the Week the day prior. She has played in all 16 games for Syracuse this season scoring two goals and adding one assist. Both of her goals were against league opponents (North Carolina and at Duke). Defensively, Hoffmann has helped the Orange to a 12-4 regular season finish while holding opponents to 1.0 goals per game and just 6.4 shots per game.
Eefke van den Nieuwenhof has started all 16 games for the Orange at center back this season. She has tallied six goals and added one assist to ranked fifth on the team in points with 13. The Soest, Netherlands native scored in four different games with two multi-goal games (Vermont and Cornell). Van den Nieuwenhof scored the game-winning goal against Vermont on Oct. 29 and tallied a season-high five points (2 goals, 1 assist) in Syracuse's regular season finale against Cornell on Oct. 31. The Orange earned the No. 2 seed to the 2021 ACC Field Hockey Tournament and will face 7-seeded Duke at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 on ACC Network. Syracuse is hosting the ACC Tournament for the first time in program history at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children 18 and under. Tournament ticket books are available for $10 and are good for all games. Tickets can be purchased on site.
