After an undefeated preseason, Syracuse begins regular season play when it take on Lafayette on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange posted exhibition-game victories against Pace (79-60) and Le Moyne (90-50) in preparation for the start of the regular campaign. Junior guard Joseph Girard III had a stellar performance against the Dolphins, finishing with 20 points and 9 assists on 50% shooting.
Lafayette opens its season with its first nonconference game in more than two years. The Leopards were confined to intra-conference opponents in 2020-21 and went 9-6, falling to Bucknell in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
THE SYRACUSE-LAFAYETTEÂ SERIES
Syracuse and Lafayette have met eight times during the regular season and the Orange have won all eight encounters. The teams have not met since 1995, when the Orange defeated the Leopards 87-63 on Nov. 25, 1995. In seven of the eight meetings, Syracuse has prevailed by a double-digit margin.
SYRACUSE LOOKS TO MAINTAIN BALANCED ATTACK
The Orange got everyone involved last Monday night against Le Moyne, as five players scored double-digit points. Girard III led the charge with 21 points, Cole Swider added 18 and Jimmy Boeheim, Buddy Boeheim and Benny Williams all tallied 11. Starting center Jessie Edwards was one basket away from joining that group against the Dolphins, scoring eight points and pulling down six rebounds.
O'BOYLEÂ SET TO CONTINUE HOT SHOOTING
Junior forward Leo O'Boyle was a constant threat from behind the arc for Lafayette last season, ranking second on the team in 3-point field goals made. O'Boyle posted his strongest weekend of the season in mid-January, when he shot 10-20 from distance in two wins against Loyola Maryland.
