Ange Bradley and her coaching staff have been named the Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Bradley, joined on the sidelines by assistant coaches Tim Broenink, Mike Pallister and volunteer assistant coach Mike Young, guided Syracuse to its first Elite Eight since 2016. Each honoree was selected by a majority vote of their regional collegeaues.
Broenink and Pallister joined Bradley's staff prior to the start of the 2021 season and helped make an immediate impact.Â
The Orange finished 14-6 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) after being picked to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place in the league in the ACC Coaches Preseason Poll.Â
The Orange defeated six nationally-ranked opponents this season including top-5 wins over No. 3 Boston College (Sept. 17, 3-1), No. 5 North Carolina (Oct. 1, 5-0), and No. 4 Penn State (Nov. 12, 4-1). Syracuse had five players earn All-ACC recognition and a Mideast Region best five players named All-Region First Team that are now eligible for All-America honors.Â
Syracuse had six different players score five or more goals this season and eight with at least three goals and one assist.Â
'Cuse advanced to its first NCAA Quarterfinals since 2016 with a 4-1 road win over national seed Penn State on Nov. 12. The Orange were the only ACC team to reach the Elite Eight this season.Â
The 2021 NFHCA Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year will be announced on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the NFHCA Awards Dinner sponsored by AstroTurf® at the 2022 NFHCA Annual Convention
