SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse returns home on Saturday to take on Notre Dame after a positive test, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Louisville men's basketball program led to the postponement of Wednesday's contest with the Cardinals. ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse (12-6, 6-5) last took the court on Saturday, February 13, when all five starters scored in double figures en route to beating Boston College, 75-67. Joseph Girard III led the Orange with 16 points, all of which were scored in the first half. Quincy Guerrier contributed 12 points and led Syracuse on the glass with nine rebounds, finishing a board shy of his eighth double-double this season.
The 'Cuse converted 18 of their 23 attempts from the charity stripe last Saturday. Their season free throw percentage (.790) is good for first in the ACC and seventh in the nation. The Orange's success rate would eclipse the program record of .751 set in 1983-84.
DEFENDING FROM DEEP
Syracuse's opponents have struggled from beyond the arc this season, converting an ACC-low 30.8 percent of their attempts from three this season. This mark dips even lower at the Carrier Dome, where the zone has limited foes to a 28.2 percent success rate from downtown.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Like Syracuse, Notre Dame also had a game canceled on Wednesday due to a positive test, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Clemson men's basketball program. The Fighting Irish last saw the court on February 14, when they defeated Miami, 71-61. The victory improved Notre Dame's record to 9-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
Forward Nate Laszewski leads Notre Dame in scoring (15.2) and rebounding average (7.5) on the year. The junior from Jupiter, Florida owns an ACC-best .652 field goal percentage, a mark that ranks seventh in the country. Prentiss Hubb (14.0), Dane Goodwin (12.4), Cormac Ryan (10.3), and Juwan Durham (10.2) join Laszewski as members of the Fighting Irish with double figure scoring averages this season. Hubb also dishes out a conference-best 6.0 assists per game this season, the 13th-best mark in the nation.
Mike Brey is in his 21st season at the helm in Notre Dame and owns a 545-295 record while leading the Fighting Irish. His wins are the most in program history.
