SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Graduate student Natalie Novotna's win at No. 2 singles gave Syracuse a 4-3 victory at Notre Dame in women's tennis action on Saturday, Feb. 21. The win improves the Orange's record to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in ACC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Notre Dame posted victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point. However, the Fighting Irish forfeited the No. 6 singles match to even the score at 1-1.

Page Freeman defeated Miranda Ramirez at No. 3 singles to again put Notre Dame on top, 2-1, but sophomore Polina Kozyreva recorded her fourth consecutive singles victory, defeating Yashna Yellayi, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 5 to tie the score at 2-2. A victory on Court 4 for the Fighting Irish gave Notre Dame a one-point lead with two matches remaining.

Syracuse freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya posted a straight-set victory against Cameron Corse, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, forcing all eyes to Court 2 for the deciding match.

Novotna won the first set against Ally Bojczuk, 7-5, but the Notre Dame senior came back to win the second set, 6-2. Novotna controlled the third set, 6-2, to give the Orange their second consecutive victory against the Fighting Irish.

Syracuse returns to the Drumlins Tennis Center next weekend for a pair of home matches. The Orange take on Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. and No. 14 Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m.
