
Orange Lose Road Matchup At Virginia Tech

Syracuse (11-7, 8-7 ACC) could not overcome a 22-point halftime deficit on Sunday afternoon, falling 76-68 to Virginia Tech (13-7, 8-7 ACC) at Cassell Coliseum. Tiana Mangakahia led the Orange with 18 points, seven assists and three rebounds.

The Hokies (13-7 overall, 8-7 ACC) got out to an early advantage, leading 20-8 after the opening frame and doubling up the Orange, 44-22, at the half.

The Orange cut the margin to 13 (59-46) heading into the final quarter, after Mangakahia scored 14 points in the third period. The point guard led an 8-0 run for the Orange to start the second half, draining back-to-back threes in transition to cut the Hokies' margin to 44-30.

Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi notched a triple to bring the Orange within nine with 3:35 left in the quarter. Syracuse would cut the lead to single digits six times in the second half, but could not close the gap enough.

Kamilla Cardoso tallied 18 points and six rebounds for her 15th double-digit scoring performance of the season.

Four Virginia Tech players combined for 67 of the squad's 76 points, with Aisha Sheppard scoring a game-high 23. The Hokies shot 50% from the field and earned a fifth consecutive ACC win for the first time in program history.
