
Orange Sprinters Debut As Track Continues Indoor Slate at Virginia Tech

Brevin Sims wins the 60-meter hurdles in his collegiate debut
Freshman hurdler Brevin Sims made his collegiate debut in fast fashion.
The Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Tennessee last year, he won the men's 60-meter hurdles and posting a sub-eight second time to lead the way at the Doc Hale Elite Meet, hosted by Virginia Tech.
Sims finished in 7.97 seconds, while classmate Isaiah Lewis (8.11), Jamil Adams (8.15) and Naseem Smith (8.22) also reached the finals for 'Cuse. Lewis (8.10) posted a faster time in the semifinals, in what was his collegiate debut. Anthony Vazquez (8.32) and David Peters (8.39) also raced for SU, putting five Orange in the top-10 at the meet.
Shaleah Colaire took sixth in the women's 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.57 seconds.
Jordan Jacob led the 'Cuse women in the 3000-meter run. She won the race in 9:59.69, followed in succession by Rachel Bonner (10:03.16), Reilly Zink (10:14.20) and Emma Wilson (10:51.37) in succession.
In the men's 3000-meter run, Syracuse turned in three of the top-seven times. Sam Lawler (8:25.25), Ethan Wechsler (8:28.32) and Joey Eovaldi (8:31.25), who took fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Gabriel Planty (8:43.38) took 11th.
Jordan Davenport ran to a time of 7.16 seconds for the 'Cuse men in the 60-meter dash, while Eunice Boateng (7.85) raced for the women.
The day started with a 28th-place finish in the 800-meter run by Bearett Tarris. James Nmah concluded the day for the Orange men with a 20th-place finish in the 400.
Syracuse is back in action at the meet on Saturday.
