3/11/2021 4:25:00 PM | Softball
The Syracuse softball team (4-3) returns to the diamond for the first time since Feb. 27 on Friday, March 1 for a double header against Charlotte at 1 and 4 p.m. The Orange are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series with the 49ers Saturday at 10 am and will face Campbell at 1 p.m. to conclude SU's trip to the Green & White Challenge.Â
The Orange have had two weeks between games due to cold temperatures causing Villanova to cancel its tournament last weekend. Syracuse enters the weekend on a two-game win streak with wins over UIC and Charleston at the Garnet/Gold Classic hosted by Winthrop on Feb. 27.Â
Toni Martin leads the Orange with a .316 batting average (6-for-19) with six RBI and a team-best three home runs. She has played and started in all seven games and is the only member of the Orange lineup hitting above .300. Calista Almer is second on the team in batting average (.263) with five hits through seven games.Â
In the circle for the Orange Alexa Romero is 2-1 with a 2.57 earned run average while Kaia Oliver is 2-2 in five appearances with the lowest ERA on the Syracuse pitching staff (2.53). Romero has a team-best 19 strikeouts while Oliver has 18. Both pitchers have allowed just six earned runs a piece this season.Â
