SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Orange tennis squad looks to return to the win column with two road matches coming up this weekend. Syracuse battles No. 29 Wake Forest on Friday, March 19 at 4.p.m. before taking on No. 12 NC State on March 21 at noon.

LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse dropped both matches this past weekend against Miami and No. 6 Florida State.

Against Miami, the Hurricanes took an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Natalie Novotna dominated No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 victory.

On the singles side, No. 121 Kanapatskaya continued to shine with her sixth straight victory as she defeated Isabella Pfennig 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Perez-Somarriba, the second-ranked singles player in the nation, earned Miami's second point as she beat No. 81 Guzal Yusupova, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. In No. 4 singles, Polina Kozyreva beat No. 87 Achong 6-4, 7-5, to tie the team score at 2-2.

The No. 6 singles match went to a tie breaker in the first set, which was won by Khodan, 8-6, against 'Cuse freshman Ines Fonte. She then won the second set, 6-0, to put the Hurricanes up 3-2 with two matches remaining. Miranda Ramirez won the first set at No. 5 singles, 6-3, but Tahan came back to take the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the victory for Miami.

Against Florida State, Syracuse recorded the first win in doubles with the tandem of Yusupova and Ramirez beating FSU's Giulia Pairone and Anna Arkadiano, 6-1. Florida State responded to win the next two doubles matches and take the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles Emmanuelle Salas and Victoria Allen took down Natalie Novotna and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, 7-5, to snap Novotna and Kanapatskaya's four match win streak. Then the 92nd-ranked doubles tandem of Nandini Das and Andrea Garcio beat Polina Kozyreva and Sofya Treshcheva, 7-5.

In singles, Florida State went up 2-0 when Kozyreva retired from the match with Petra Hule due to illness. The Seminoles posted wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to take a 4-0 lead and their 10th victory of the season.

The remaining matches were played out with Florida State winning all three. At No. 1 singles, Syracuse's Kanapatskaya lost to 27th-ranked Giulia Pairone to end her six-match win streak.

SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
The Demon Deacons come into the match with a 7-6 mark on the season. In its last match, Wake Forest defeated Louisville, 4-3. At the helm is head coach Jedd Wyshner, who has led them to two 20-plus win seasons in the past three years.
