
UConn Tops 'Cuse in NCAA Second Round

Top-seeded UConn held No. 8 seed Syracuse to just 28-percent shooting from the floor as strong second and third quarter efforts from the Huskies distanced themselves from the Orange to win 83-47 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday night.  The loss concludes Syracuse's season at 15-9.
Kamilla Cardoso and Emily Engstler paced the 'Cuse offense with 12 points apiece, while Paige Bueckers led UConn with a game-high 20.

Syracuse hung with the Huskies into the second quarter. A seven-point run to close out the final two minutes of the first half gave Connecticut the 41-26 advantage at the break. UConn capitalized on 14 points off of eight forced turnovers and shot 56 perent from the field. Bueckers, the freshman All-American, posted 16 points in the half.
UConn outscored 'Cuse 23-9 in the third frame, and closed out the final 10 minutes to advance to the Sweet 16.Â
Fifth-year point guard Tiana Mangakahia tallied seven points and three assists and senior Kiara Lewis had eight points. Seniors Digna Strautmane and Amaya Finklea-Guity each contributed three points and three rebounds.Â
Of Note:
- Kamilla Cardoso's 12 points marks the 20th career double figure scoring performance for the freshman (24 games)
- Emily Engstler scored in double digits for the third consecutive game.Â
- Digna Strautmane started in all 120 games of her Syracuse career
- Tiana Mangakahia finishes her career with 736 assists as the Orange's all-time leader in assists.
