SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse graduate student Emily Hawryschuk will miss the remainder of the 2021 women's lacrosse season after suffering a season-ending injury. The Victor, N.Y. native tore her ACL in her right knee last week in practice.
Â
Hawryschuk was a player of the year candidate after ranking as one of the top scorers in the nation the past two seasons. The preseason All-American was fifth in the country with 46 points and eighth in points per game (5.75) in eight games last season. As a junior, Hawryschuk scored 75 goals, which was good for ninth in the country and second on Syracuse's single-season record list.
In the season opener at Loyola, Hawryschuk recorded five points to increase her career total to 254 and move into fifth place on the Orange's all-time points list. She also ranks fifth in career goals.
Â
Hawryschuk returned to Syracuse for a fifth season, taking advantage of the NCAA's ruling that spring sport student-athletes impacted by their seasons being halted due to COVID-19 could retain their year of eligibility.
