Orange and 'Hoos play at Noon on ESPNU
Syracuse hits the road for its second road game of the year on Saturday, when No. 11 'Cuse heads to No. 5 Virginia. Here's five things to know about the matchup:
1. It's a rematch
Due to a one-year change in the men's lacrosse schedule model, the Orange will face both Virginia and Notre Dame twice this season in conference play. Syracuse defeated the Cavaliers 20-10 in the February matchup between the two schools.
Syracuse is seeking to defeat a team twice in the same season for the first time since 2016, when the Orange bested Albany twice (regular season and NCAA Tournament) and North Carolina twice (regular season and ACC Tournament). The Orange have either split (North Carolina, 2018; Virginia 2017) or lost twice (Cornell, 2018) their three-most recent double ups.
2. Syracuse Wins on the Road
A sign of optimism for the Orange is that they've actually played better in regular season road games than at home over the last five years.
Syracuse is 12-3 (.800) in its last 15 regular-season road games, dating back to the start of the 2017 season. Syracuse is 26-10 (.722) in regular-season home games over that same timespan. Including postseason contests, Syracuse is 12-6 (.667) in true road games since the start of the 2017 campaign.
3. Trimboli Moves Up Midfield Ranks
Senior Jamie Trimboli enters Saturday's game with the eighth-most goals in Syracuse history (86) after passing Dom Fin (85) last time out. Trimboli is not far off from the next-two ahead of him. Ron Hill (90) and Todd Curry (93) are next to pass.
Todd Curry is the father of current Orange captain Brendan Curry. Brendan has 90 career points (57 goals) and another year of eligibility remaining to climb the ranks in his own right.
4. The Virginia Series is a Tight One
Syracuse leads the all-time series 19-18, with the game being decided by one goal in nearly half of all-time meetings (17). The game has been decided by one goal in five of the last-six contests.
5. Catch us on the U
ESPNU will be where Syracuse's final two regular season games will be shown. The Orange have had every game broadcast nationally this season.
Faceoff is set for Noon.
