
Orange Defeat Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – Syracuse tennis posted its second straight win with a 4-3 victory at Clemson on Sunday. For the second consecutive match, freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya's triumph at No. 1 singles clinched the victory for the Orange.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse (6-8, 5-6) led 1-0 after doubles play. The Orange's No. 1 pair of Polina Kozyreva and Sofya Treshcheva defeated Cristina Mayorova and Sophia Hatton, 6-3, however the Tigers won the No. 2 doubles match when Jenna Thompson and Mackenzy Middlebrooks beat Kanapatskaya and Natalie Novotna, 7-5. Guzal Yusupova and Miranda Ramirez gave Syracuse the point when they claimed the No. 3 doubles match, 6-4, over Ali DeSpain and Laura Marti.
Clemson (7-13, 1-9) fought back in singles, posting victories on courts 5, 2, and 3 to take the lead. Novotna recorded a 6-2, 7-5 win over DeSpain at No. 4 singles, and Kozyreva won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, on court 6 to even the match at 3-3. Kanapatskaya defeated Thompson, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to give the Orange their second straight victory.
UP NEXT
Syracuse ends the regular season with a pair of matches at the Drumlins Tennis Center next weekend. The Orange host No. 1 North Carolina on Friday and No. 13 Duke on Sunday.
