5 Things to Know: Syracuse vs. UAlbany
4/6/2021 10:21:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
'Cuse and Albany set to face off on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Syracuse hosts UAlbany on Thursday at 5 p.m. Here's five things to know about the matchup:
1. Another Test
UAlbany enters Thursday's game receiving votes in both polls. Syracuse's challenging slate features eight games against teams currently ranked in the top-20 and 10 games against teams at least receiving votes.
2. Out of Conference
The Great Danes represent the lone non-conference game in a stretch of six weeks. Syracuse has already dropped back-to-back contests vs. Duke and Notre Dame, and will then square off with North Carolina, Virginia and Notre Dame in succession following this week's game.
Since Syracuse joined the ACC, the Orange are 52-14 vs. non-conference opponents and 48-10 in regular season, non-league games.
3. Empire State of Mind
The Orange have just three New York opponents on their schedule this regular season after the matchup with Hofstra was replaced by Holy Cross, due to a COVID pause within the Pride's program.
This is the fewest number of in-state opponents 'Cuse has played since 2002, when the Orange also played just three New York squads. SU faced Army, Hobart and Cornell that season. Syracuse enters Thursday's game with a 417-161-10 record against New York teams.
Just one of Syracuse's four most frequent opponents (all New York teams) are on the slate this season, with Syracuse and Army playing for the 68th time in February. The Orange are not scheduled to face Hobart (106 meetings), Cornell (105 meetings) or Colgate (62 meetings).
4. Catch Us on ACCN
Thursday's game will be another Thursday Night Lacrosse selection on ACCN. Every single Syracuse game is set to be broadcast nationally this season, with 11 of the team's 12 regular season games selected or national linear television on either ACCN or ESPNU.
Since the start of the 2016 season, 95-percent of Syracuse's games have been nationally broadcast.
5. Students in the House
Thursday's game will again have student fans, before the Orange welcome back members of the general public for the women's lacrosse game vs. Virginia on Saturday and the men's lacrosse game vs. North Carolina on April 17.
General public tickets for the men's lacrosse game have sold out, but women's lacrosse tickets for Saturday are still available at Cuse.com/Tickets. Fans who have or intend to secure tickets to either contest should be sure to familiarize themselves with the Dome's reopening plan as many new COVID procedures are in place for fans upon returning to the stadium.
