
Casares-Maher, Romero Earn All-ACC Honors

Senior Neli Casares-Maher and graduate student Alexa Romero were named to the All-ACC Second and Third Team, respectively, on Tuesday afternoon. It marks the first time Casares-Maher has earned postseason recognition in her career. Romero was named All-ACC Second Team in 2018 and was a 2019 All-ACC Preseason selection. Romero also was named to the All-ACC Freshman team in 2017.Â
Casares-Maher leads the Orange with a .349 batting average and has started all 43 games for Syracuse this season. She tallied 45 hits, including 28 extra-base hits and is tied for the team lead with six home runs. Casares-Maher drove in 20 runs for 'Cuse and had a .589 slugging percentage. As Syracuse's starting shortstop, the Orange, Calif., native has a .960 fielding percentage with 49 putouts and 72 assists. She's had a hand in three double plays in the field this season.Â
Romero holds a 8-9 record in the circle for Syracuse. She has a 3.24 ERA and has thrown nine complete games this season. She's tallied 128 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched and has held opponents to a .208 batting average. The Aurora, Colo., native has appeared in 27 games with 19 starts.Â
Casares-Maher, Romero and the Syracuse softball team earned the No. 8 seed to the 2021 ACC Tournament and will face No. 9 Georgia Tech on Wednesday, May 12. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on ACC Network.Â
