Three Syracuse University student-athletes will be recognized in the ACC Network show "No Limit: The ACC Salutes Scholar-Athletes" on Monday, May 17 at 8 pm. Seniors Josie Kiesel (rowing), Stephen Rehfuss (lacrosse) and Kristen Siermachesky (ice hockey) are three of the 52 student-athletes who earned the 2020-21 ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award for their outstanding performances in their respective sports, engagement in the community, and exemplary work in classroom.Â
"No Limit" brings together the best and brightest student-athletes from all 15 schools and includes interviews about their passion for ACC athletics, academics and current issues. The one-hour show is hosted by former ACC student-athletes and current ACCN personalities Katie George and EJ Manuel.
Â
This class of outstanding scholar-athletes will be the first to receive the newly-named Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship as former Commissioner John Swofford's name has been added to the award. During Swofford's 24 years as the league's Commissioner, the ACC won 92 national team titles in 19 of the league's 27 sponsored sports, and the league continued to set the standard academically by leading all conferences in nearly every comparison. Â
A senior co-captain, Kiesel is a native of Wurzburg, Germany who is majoring in sport management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. A 2019 ACC All-Academic Team selection and three-time ACC Honor Roll member, Kiesel has rowed in the varsity eight and second varsity eight (2V8) throughout her career. Kiesel and her teammates finished third at the 2021 ACC Championship. Every Syracuse boat earned a medal by placing in the top three for the first time in program history. Kiesel rowed in the bow seat of the varsity 8 that earned a bronze medal. As a freshman she held a seat in the 2V8 that finished 11th at the 2018 NCAA Championship and second at the ACC Championship. In her second year, she rowed in the bow seat for the V8 that won the bronze medal at the ACC Championship and was second at the ACC/Big Ten Duel. She and her three siblings were all national team athletes for the German Rowing Federation. Keisel volunteers a mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of Central New York and is currently working as an intern for the Dunn Tire Mountain Goat Run.
Â
Rehfuss has quarterbacked the Syracuse offense for the last five years. He ranks ninth in program history in career assists (110). A Latham, N.Y. native, Rehfuss was accepted to Albany Law, but deferred enrollment for one year until this fall to utilize his additional season of eligibility that was granted to spring sport athletes whose seasons were impacted by COVID-19 in 2020. He earned his undergraduate degree in communication and rhetorical studies in 2019, a graduate degree in information technology management in 2020 and is currently enrolled in a certificate of advanced study program in intercollegiate advising and support. A team captain, Rehfuss led the Orange in points (56) and assists (30) in 2021.Â
Â
A sport management major and team captain, Siermachesky is the president of Syracuse's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and vice president of the Diversity and Inclusion Student-Athlete Board (DISAB). A native of New Liskeard, Ontario, Siermachesky captained the 2020-21 hockey team after serving as an assistant captain as a junior. The defender scored 17 points (five goals and 12 assists) in her 125-game career. In 2019 she was part of Syracuse's first College Hockey America championship team that earned the program's first invitation to the NCAA Tournament. A captain of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Siermachesky is a three-time CHA All-Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll honoree.
