5/2/2021 8:38:00 PM | Women's Rowing
The first varsity four race was decided by a 1.6 second difference when the Syracuse women's rowing team competed against Rutgers and Princeton on Mercer Lake on Sunday. The Orange's first varsity four completed the course in 7:25.0, while Rutgers won the race in 7:23.4 and Princeton was second in 7:24.2. The second varsity eight finished second in 6:42.2, behind Rutgers (6:39.8) and ahead of Princeton (6:49.5).
"Our first varsity four put themselves in a position to win the race and a good spot heading into the Atlantic Coast Conference championship," said head coach Luke McGee. "The second varsity eight had a nice performance as they continued to close the gap on Rutgers from the first race in the beginning of April and at the Big Ten Invitational. They definitely continue to take steps forward."
The varsity eight finished in 6:41.8, behind Rutgers (6:28.3) and Princeton (6:32.0). In the first race, the Orange second varsity four finished third (7:33.7), while the third varsity four finished fifth (7:52.4). Rutgers third varsity four won the race (7:24.6) and Rutgers second varsity four was second (7:29.7) and Rutgers fourth varsity four was fourth (7:37.3).
Syracuse will compete at the ACC Championship on May 14th and 15th in Clemson, S.C.
"We will have two weeks of preparation as we get ready for the conference championship," McGee said. "We have to do a nice job at the ACCs."
