A busy weekend lies ahead across North America for Syracuse alumni and one current sprinter who are looking to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
At the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, Freddie Crittenden III (110H), Jarret Eaton (110H), Paige Stoner (10k) and Sarah Pagano (10k) are representing 'Cuse in races this weekend. Martin Hehir was the fifth Orange alum at the meet, racing last Saturday in the men's 10k.
Crittenden III and Eaton will open up their competition on Friday at 5:33 p.m. ET in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles. Pagano and Stoner will run on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET in the 10,000-meter final.
At the Canadian Olympic trials, Shaleah Colaire will race in the 100-meter hurdles. She looks to join Justyn Knight on the Canadian Olympic team. Knight is exempt from competing in the trials due to having the Olympic standard and ranking in the top-two in Canada in an event. Knight currently holds Olympic standard times and the requisite ranking in two separate events, the 1,500-meters and the 5,000-meters with PR times of 3:33.41 and 12:51.93 this year, respectively.
Colarie's trails race will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Montreal.
Eaton was Syracuse's first NCAA track and field champion, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 2012. He has since won the 2016 U.S. Indoor Championships and was the silver medalist at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.
Â
Crittenden III was a two-time NCAA runner-up in 2016 and 2017 in the 60-meter hurdles. He is a four-time All-American and four-time All-ACC performer with the Orange.
Â
Stoner is a five-time ACC Champion at 'Cuse and five-time USTFCCCA All-American. She is Syracuse's top finisher ever in women's cross country and has competed in everything from the steeplechase to the marathon at the championship level.
Â
Pagano was a USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 10,000-meters as a redshirt senior in 2014, while taking seventh at the NCAA Championships. The Ringwood, N.J. native now races professionally for adidas.
This group looks to join Katie Zaferes and Jerami Grant on Team USA in Tokyo. Zaferes, a fellow track and field alum, was announced as a representative of Team USA in the Triathlon last Wednesday. Grant will play for USA Basketball.
Colaire just wrapped up her second season with the Orange. She was an NCAA East Prelim qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles.
