5000-meter semifinals at 7 a.m. ET.
Syracuse cross country/track and field star Justyn Knight begins his Olympics on Tuesday in the men's 5000-meter semifinals.
Knight will take to the track in the event at 7 a.m. ET (8 p.m. in Tokyo), to represent Canada in his first Olympics. He enters the meet with the fifth-fastest 5,000-meter time in the world this year to date. He clocked a personal-best 12:51.93 in a Diamond League race in Firenze, Italy this June.
A two-time NCAA Champion and the most decorated athlete in ACC history, boasting 16 conference titles (5 team, 11 individual), Knight was the 2017 USTFCCCA Cross Country Athlete of the Year. He finished in the top-three of his last-seven NCAA Championship races. He is an 11-time USTFCCCA All-American.
Last week, Knight caught up with Brian Higgins for an episode of 'Cuse Connections:
Knight is seeking to become the fourth Orange Olympian to come away with a medal in Tokyo, which would break the school record for most medals accumulated in a single Olympics. Fellow track and field alumni Katie Zaferes already owns a silver and bronze from the triathlon and triathlon mixed relay events and softball's Jenna Caira also earned bronze for Team Canada already. Hattie Taylor (rowing) finished fourth for Great Britain. In addition to Knight, Kayla Alexander and Jerami Grant are also still competing in basketball.
