Grant, Team USA In Gold-Medal Game

Former Syracuse standout Jerami Grant and his current teammates with Team USA have advanced to the gold-medal game of the Tokyo Olympics. The Americans defeated Australia in the semifinals on Friday, 97-78.

Team USA trailed by 15 points in the early going, but a 48-14 run put them ahead 74-55 after three quarters. Kevin Durant had 23 points and Devin Booker added 20 to top the Americans. Grant saw action off the bench.
Next up for Team USA is the gold-medal matchup with France on Friday, August 6, at 10:30 p.m. EDTÂ time. The Americans hope to avenge an 83-76 loss to France during the preliminary rounds on July 25.
France enters the Olympic title game with an unblemished 5-0 record while Team USA is 4-1.
Grant has seen action in four of five games for the Americans.Â
Grant is the second former Orange performer to compete for the United States in the basketball portion of the Olympics, joining multiple gold-medal winner Carmelo Anthony.
Grant in Orange
He played during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at Syracuse. As a freshman, he played in all 40 games, including nine as a starter, for the club that finished 30-10 overall and reached the NCAA Final Four. Grant averaged 3.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a rookie. The following season, Grant's numbers jumped to 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. The Orange were 28-6 and Grant started in 20 of the 32 games he played in. He posted seven double-doubles for the Orange, including a 24-point, 12-rebound showing in an overtime victory against Duke.
Pro Grant
He decided to enter his name in the 2014 NBA Draft and was selected in the second round and 39th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent a little more than two seasons with the Sixers before moving on to Oklahoma City. He played three years with the Thunder, a tenure capped by a 2018-19 campaign that saw him average 13.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 80 contests. The Nuggets reached the Western Conference Finals.
Grant is coming off his most successful professional season. He was traded to Detroit in November, and, after signing a three-year, $60 million free-agent contract, Grant averaged 22.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 54 games.The Grant trade was put together by Pistons general manager Troy Weaver, a former Syracuse assistant coach. Weaver also worked in Oklahoma City's front office when Grant was acquired by the Thunder.Â
