Tucker Steals Show on Saturday

On a day filled with storylines – Andre Szmyt breaking the program's all-time field goal record and both contenders for QB1 having their last week of split reps, to name a few – it was perhaps Syracuse's quietest and most consistent weapon stealing the show.
Second-year freshman back Sean Tucker became the first player in program history to rush for 100+ yards and have 100+ receiving yards in the same game. He also notched five touchdowns (one shy of Jim Brown's program record) in little more than two quarters of action.
"I was just seeing a lot of my o-line blocking," Tucker said afterwards. "They were blocking hard all game and giving me opportunities to get to the second level and just run by everyone."
Tucker's journey to become the Orange's feature back was a little bit of happenstance meeting a Wally Pipp situation. He started 2020 fall camp as the No. 4 back on the depth chart in a talented running back room. After a pair of opt outs in the COVID-effected 2020 season and the third player up suffered a season-ending injury in the first quarter of the Orange's third game – Tucker seized opportunity and never looked back.
He's now played in 12 collegiate games, the equivalent of one regular season. In that time he has run for 993 yards (5.3 yards per carry), and has crossed the century mark five times in those 12 contests, a mark that already ties for 20th in program history.
This season he's already shown that last season was no fluke. He enters week ranked second nationally with 171.7 all-purpose yards per game, third nationally with seven touchdowns, fifth in rushing touchdowns (six), ninth in rushing yards (367) and fourth in scoring (14.0 points per game).
