Syracuse Blanks Binghamton, 1-0
9/2/2021 9:30:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Freshman Pauline Machtens scored her first collegiate goal and it held up, leading Syracuse (3-1) to a 1-0 victory against Binghamton (2-2-1) at the SU Soccer Stadium.
A FIRST FOR MACHTENS
Machtens scored just under 25 minutes into the game. Senior Telly Vunipola crossed the ball into the box for the Orange. A Binghamton defender got a foot on the ball but it deflected to Machtens who finished off the play.
SHUTOUT FOR PROULX
Graduate student Lysianne Proulx picked up her second shutout in goal for Syracuse. She was not forced to make a save but made a number of key plays throughout to keep the Bearcats from finding the net.
ORANGE APPLY OFFENSIVE PRESSURE
Syracuse accumulated 19 shots, including 10 on goal, to keep the Binghamton defense busy. Vunipola led the Orange with five shots overall and senior Meghan Root, the squad-leader this fall, had four.
COACH ADAMS SAYS
"The one thing that I'm really appreciating about this team is that every week we are understanding the changes we need to make to get better and we are executing them the next game. I'm really, really proud of this group.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
The Orange face their first road-game test of the fall when they play at New Hampshire on Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 p.m.
