Senior Meghan Root helped ignite a second-half rally with a goal but Syracuse's (4-4-1, 0-2 ACC) hopes were dashed in a final-minute, 2-1 loss to Louisville (6-1-1, 2-0 ACC) at the SU Soccer Stadium.

THE FINAL MINUTE
The two ACC rivals appeared to be headed for overtime when Syracuse was whistled for a foul in the box with 32 seconds left in regulation. Louisville's Anouk Denton converted the penalty kick to clinch victory for the visitors.

ROOT-LED RALLY
Syracuse upped its attack in the second half and it paid off at the 67:32 mark. Freshman Kendyl Lauher chipped a ball ahead to Root, who broke in on the Louisville goal. Her shot found the net and tied the contest, 1-1.

It was Root's second goal of the campaign.

CARDS DEAL FIRST
Louisville scored first, on a tally by Delaney Snyder at 12:40. Julia Simon picked up the assist for the Cards.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

Louisville improved its all-time series advantage against Syracuse to 8-0-1.
The Cards outshot the Orange, 16-9, and had a shots-on-goal advantage of 8-6.
Lysianne Proulx, who ranks fifth in career saves at Syracuse, made five stops in goal.
