
Orange Lose To Nation's Top Defense

Syracuse (4-5-1, 0-3 ACC) was shutout by Wake Forest (10-1, 2-1), owner of the nation's top defense, 2-0 at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
The Demon Deacons entered the contest having yielded just one goal all year. Wake Forest posted its 10th shutout of the still young campaign.
WAKE UP
The Demon Deacons got on the board first at 19:23 on a goal from Hulda Arnarsdottir. Ryanne Brown picked up the assist for Wake.
The two teams traded opportunities without scoring for the next 53 minutes. Wake Forest extended its advantage when Zara Chavoshi found an open Shayla Smart, who converted her seventh goal of the season. Smart's point-blank drive was deflected by Syracuse senior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx, but still found the net.
YOUTHFUL 'CUSE CREW GAINS ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Syracuse faced Wake Forest without six starters out with injuries. Coach Nicky Thrasher-Adams turned to six freshmen in her starting lineup: Koby Commandant, Grace Franklin, Kylen Grant, Emma Klein, Pauline Machtens and Liesel Odden,Â
Machtens and sophomore Aysia Cobb led the Orange with two shots each.
