Tucker Shines in 2021 Opener

If there was any doubt if Sean Tucker would be able to follow up his stellar freshman campaign, he put those doubts to bed on Saturday night.
After the third-most productive true freshman season in program history, Tucker galloped for 181-yards on the ground, the second-most by a player under sixth-year head coach Dino Babers and the fourth-most by a Syracuse player in the last-15 years.
As a team, the Orange ran for 283 yards, the most since the 2019 season (286 in a win at Duke).
"I just want to give credit to my o-line," Tucker said afterwards. "They opened a lot of holes for me and gave me an opportunity to get to the second level."
Â
Tucker played in just the 10th game of his Syracuse career Saturday – but it was already the fourth time he'd run for more than 100 yards.
"I saw him doing some fantastic things," said head coach Dino Babers. "He was running behind his pads, had great ball security in the open field – we're really excited about the way he started."
The last player to rush for more 175+ yards for the Orange was Eric Dungey (200) in the 2018 season opener.
Beyond Tucker's success, Cooper Lutz added a touchdown, while QB Tommy DeVito ran for 49 yards and a score, and Jarveon Howard and Abdul Adams also contributed on the ground. The constant was the offensive line. They allowed just one sack on the day.
After allowing 14 sacks in the first two games of 2020, Syracuse has allowed just one in each of the last-two games dating back to last year's season finale against Notre Dame.
