5 Things to Know: Syracuse vs. NC State
10/12/2022 3:01:00 PM | Football
Syracuse and NC State will square off in the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday concluding a four-game homestand. Here are five storylines to watch:
1. Ranked on Ranked
The Orange (#18) and Wolfpack (#15) both enter the game ranked in the top-20 of the AP Poll. It's the first time since 2001 that there was a battle of two ranked teams in the Dome, and first time since the 1998 season opener that two top-20 teams in the AP Poll squared off in Syracuse.
2. The Loud House
It'll be quite an event on Saturday in the Dome. A limited supply of tickets remains, so fans should purchase theirs today to secure their seats. Visit Cuse.com/Tickets or call 888-DOME-TIX today to be in the Loud House on Saturday.
3. Celebrating the Greats
At halftime of Saturday's game, three of the five inaugural members of Syracuse Athletics' Ring of Honor will be formally enshrined. Their names have been affixed to the façade of the JMA Dome since 2020, but due to fan restrictions that year because of the pandemic, Syracuse fans will finally get to celebrate.
Family representatives for Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little will all be on hand to celebrate the day in a special ceremony at the half.
4. Top-10 Defense
While Duce Chestnut may have gone viral with some naysayers for his preseason comments that he believed the Orange could be a top-10 defense in 2022 – that's exactly where they sit at the near midway point of the season.
Syracuse enters the game ninth nationally in scoring defense, surrendering just 14 points per game.
5. Dual Threat
With quarterbacks Garrett Shrader's addition to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Wednesday, the Orange backfield tandem is one-of-nine FBS schools to have its quarterback and running back on the list.
Shrader and Tucker have notched 36 rushing touchdowns in their 17 games played together. That's the most rushing touchdowns in program history for any duo with less than 20 games played together, and sixth-most total.
