GREENSBORO, N.C. – On the eve of the 2022 ACC Field Hockey Tournament, the league office announced its annual All-ACC Field Hockey team. Syracuse University was well represented with four All-ACC selections.
Graduate student Quirine Comans was named First Team All-ACC, while senior Charlotte de Vries, junior Eefke van den Nieuwenhof, and freshman Jannemijn Deutman earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
Comans earned First Team All-ACC honors for the second year in a row after leading the Orange in points through the regular season with 35. The graduate student paces Syracuse in goals (14), while racking 11 games with multiple points. She has scored on nearly half of her shots on goal this season while ranking second in the ACC in points, points per game (1.94), goals (14), and third in goals per game (0.78).
A perennial on the All-ACC list, de Vries earns the fourth postseason honor of her 'Cuse career. With one of her most balanced seasons with the Orange, de Vries finished second on the team during the regular season with 32 points thanks to 11 goals and 10 assists. Her goal total is third in the ACC, with her 11 helpers ranking fourth in the conference. De Vries sports the fourth-best assists per game ratio in the ACC (0.56). With a knack for scoring key goals, de Vries is second in the ACC with six game-winning goals, a total that leads the Orange as well.
Collecting her third All-ACC recognition in as many seasons, van den Nieuwenhof has been a dual threat for the Orange this season, bringing a heavy shot to the penalty corner unit while backing one of the top defenses. Despite missing four games with an injury, van den Nieuwenhof ranks seventh in the ACC in points per game (1.36), eighth in goals per game (0.50) and 10th in assists per game (0.36). On the attacking penalty corner unit, van den Nieuwenhof has helped the Orange convert 0.78 goals off corners in the ACC with the league's second-most corner goals (14) as a team.
Picking up the first All-ACC honor of her young career, Deutman joined van den Nieuwenhof on the back line of the Orange defense. The rookie played in 16 games, including four starts as she made her collegiate debut on September 2 at Kent State. This season, the Orange defense carried a 1.49 goals against average as Deutman also helped Syracuse transition from offense to defense.
Syracuse, seeded fifth in the ACC Tournament, takes on fourth-seeded Boston College on Tuesday afternoon, leading off the 2022 ACC Tournament with the first game. First push is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network. Leah Secondo and Suzanne Bush have the call.
