
Women's Basketball Signs Australian Guard Sophie Burrows

Sophie Burrows, a 6-foot-2 guard from Lower Plenty, Victoria, Australia has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Syracuse University and play basketball for the Orange.Â
"Sophie is going to be a special player in the ACC!" Legette-Jack said. "Her laser sharp jumper, tough defense, and her team play makes me excited about our future. I have had fantastic success with my Australian student athletes. Sophie will join Georgia Woolley and the rest of us pursue championships in the classroom and on the court. Burrows is the first signee of the 2023 class for Syracuse Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack. She will graduate from Viewbank College in 2022 and will join the Orange in the fall of 2023.Â
Burrows played two seasons in the NBL1, a semi-professional league in Australia, for the Diamond Valley Basketball Association. In 2022, she averaged 15.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from the field. Over the course of her two-year carer within NBL1, Burrows averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals. In the 2022 NBL1 season, she was the Diamond Valley MVP.Â
Burrows represented Victoria in the Australian National Championships and helped her team to gold on the U16 and U20 squads and a silver with the U18 team.Â
A development player for the WNBL Melbourne Boomers since 2021, she was also a 2022 Asia Cup world qualifier where she helped the U18 Australian Gems to gold.Â
