5 Things to Know: Syracuse at Pitt
11/3/2022 12:40:00 PM | Football
Syracuse heads to longtime rival Pitt on Saturday looking to snap a two-game losing skid. Here are five things to know about the matchup:
1. RESTORED RIVALRY
Pittsburgh is Syracuse's longest running series and most frequent opponent. The Orange and Panthers have met 77 times previously and have played annually since 1955. The series itself dates back to 1916.
Penn State (69), Colgate (67) and West Virginia (61) are Syracuse's next-most frequently faced foes behind the Panthers.
2. ROAD WARRIORS
While Syracuse has enjoyed a healthy dose of Dome games to start the season (six of the first eight) – 'Cuse will hit the road in three of their final-four matchups to close the season in November.
Syracuse is 1-1 away from home this season. A win on Saturday would be the first at newly named Acrisure Stadium since 2001.
3. GROUND GAME
Saturday's game features the ACC's top-two leading rushers. Pitt's Isreal Abanikanda (1,086) and the Orange's Sean Tucker (758) are first and second respectively in rushing yards. Tucker led the ACC and finished in the top-five nationally in the category.
4. COASTAL SWEEP?
Syracuse is looking to sweep the ACC Coastal for the first time since joining the conference in 2013.
The Orange already defeated Virginia at home this season. 'Cuse's lone win over Pitt – Syracuse's annual ACC Coastal Division opponent - in that span was in 2017. That same year, Syracuse lost by a touchdown at then No. 8 Miami, preventing the perfect record.
This will be Syracuse's last chance to do so as the conference is getting rid of divisions starting next season.

5. SENIOR DAY ON DECK
Syracuse's final home game of the 2022 season will be next week at Florida State. It'll be the final time fans get to see Orange seniors and any other NFL Draft eligible players who elect to forgo remaining eligibility in the JMA Dome in an SU uniform.
