Syracuse to host Lacrosse Legends Day
It'll be a historic day in the Dome on Sunday as Orange legends Gary Gait and Katie Rowan have their jerseys honored prior to the men's and women's games vs. No. 1 Maryland and No. 4 Stony Brook, respectively and Roy Simmons Jr. is honored at halftime of the men's lacrosse game vs. the Terps.
Here are five things to know about the matchup:
1. ARRIVE EARLY AND STICK AROUND
As Gait will be coaching the Orange on Sunday, his honoring will take place prior to faceoff of the men's lacrosse game. Gait's on-field presentation and jersey retirement will begin at 11:37 a.m.
Gait, who started the legend of the No. 22, will have his jersey permanently hung in the Dome rafters. However, as is tradition with SU jersey retirements: Syracuse honors jerseys, not individual numbers. The No. 22 jersey will not be coming out of rotation.
Simmons Jr. – the six-time NCAA Champion head coach – will become the sixth person enshrined in the Syracuse Athletics' Ring of Honor on Sunday. His ceremony will take place at halftime of the men's game.
Rowan – the Orange's all-time leader in points – will become the first member of the program to have her jersey retired prior to the top-four showdown between 'Cuse and Stony Brook.

2. TOP-10 CHALLENGE
This is the first of two-straight matchups vs. one of the nation's co-No. 1 teams in this week's poll. Syracuse hosts the top-ranked Terps after moving up to No. 9 this week in both the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
The Orange have a gauntlet of a schedule ahead, with every remaining team on the 2022 slate being either ranked or receiving votes in this week's USILA Poll.
3. BATTLE OF SOME OF THE BEST
Syracuse (925) and Maryland (855) are two of the sport's three-winningest programs all-time, but have only played one another 17 times previously and only five times in the last-30 years.
The Terps enter with a three-game winning streak over the Orange, dating back to when the teams were in the ACC together in 2014, but have not met since 2016.
4. EFFICIENT ORANGE
The 'Cuse offense posted its most efficient day on record in the season opener vs. Holy Cross.
Syracuse shot at a clip of 57.8-percent, a mark that currently leads the nation. It's the first time SU has shot over 50-percent since 2017 and is the highest shooting percentage on record.
Syracuse also set a new Carrier Dome record for largest margin of victory (23), scored the most goals in a game since 1994 (28) and scored the most goals ever in a half (19).
5. AGAINST #1
Syracuse enters Sunday's game with a 10-13 all-time record when playing the No. 1 team in the USILA Poll. Sunday's game will be the first time 'Cuse has played No. 1 since the Orange beat then No. 1 Notre Dame on April 1, 2017.
Seven of the prior meetings vs. the nation's No. 1 ranked team have come at home, with Syracuse owning a 4-3 record, including back-to-back wins in the last two meetings, vs. top-ranked teams.
