
Orange Start Outdoor Season

The Syracuse track and field teams kicked off their outdoor seasons on day one of a pair of weekend meets in different cities on Thursday night. 'Cuse started a number of its distance runners' seasons in the Raleigh Relays, while the sprinters began their outdoor year at the Florida State Relays.
In North Carolina, the women's 10k headlined night one, Emily Lane finished in fifth in her heat, crossing the line in 35:35.09. Her time was 60th in a field that featured nearly 120 runners.
Silas Derfel opened the action earlier in the day in the 1500-meter run. He turned in a time of 3:54.27 seconds.
In Tallahassee, the Orange got their weekend started with the 200-meter dashes. While a larger portion of the roster will start their outdoor seasons on Friday, Jaheem Hayles and Janelle Pottinger turned in top-eight finishes in the events to start things off.
In the men's 200, Hayles was the fourth-fastest collegian, finishing sixth overall. He crossed the line in 21.53 seconds. Georgia's Elija Godwin (20.75) won the race. Hayles led three 'Cuse runners in the event, with Trei Thorogood (22.00) and Anthony Vazquez (22.38) finishing in 11th and 14th.
Pottinger finished in 25.21, which was good for eighth. Kaleia Arrington took 12th in 25.65 seconds, followed two places behind by Kennedy Tarley (26.13).
Action continues at both meets on Friday.
