5 Things to Know: Syracuse at Notre Dame

'Cuse and Notre Dame face off for the Orange's third of six ACC games this season. Here's five things to know about the Orange's trip to South Bend.
1. Mental Matters Game
Syracuse and Notre Dame have partnered to make Saturday's game about an important cause, dedicating the game to raising funds and awareness for a pair of mental health organizations close to each program. In conjunction with the 15 For Life Foundation and the Tommy O'Brien Fund, Syracuse and Notre Dame will be wearing shooting search with the two organizations logos on them. An online store has been created for fans to purchase the shirts, with all proceeds going to the organizations. To contribute and purchase shirts, visit Notre Dame's store for the cause.
The 15 For Life Foundation was created in memory of former 'Cuse star attackman Rob Kavovit. Kavovit passed away on March 16, 2021 after taking his own life while suffering from silent depression. The Kavovit Family funneled their grief into opening the dialogue around depression and mental matters. Their mission is to shed the shame around needing help and normalizing the conversation around mental health by creating awareness so that our loss may help others. Kavovit remains one of the leading scorers in program history. His 246 points puts him ninth in SU history and he was an All-American in each of his final three seasons with the Orange (1995, 1996, 1997).
2. Tucker Time
Tucker Dordevic is on pace for a historic goal-scoring season at Syracuse, as the redshirt junior has already scored 31 goals through eight games, scoring at a clip of nearly 3.9 goals per game. He is on pace to finish the 14 game regular season with 54 goals, which would be the fourth-most goals in a season in program history and most since Gary Gait scored 70 in 1988.
Dordevic ranks third nationally in goals per game and has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back games after scoring nine points at Stony Brook and seven vs. Duke.
3. Defense Coming Together
Syracuse has held their opponent to 10-or-less goals in each of the last-three games, marking the first time since 2019 they've done so in three-or-more consecutive contests.Â
'Cuse held Johns Hopkins to 10, Stony Brook to 9 and Duke to 10. The Orange held their opponents below 10 in each of the last-four games of the 2019 season, resulting in wins over Hobart (17-5), Cornell (13-8), North Carolina (12-9) and Navy (18-9). Three of those four games came on the road, which would be the case again this season if 'Cuse can continue the trend on Saturday.
4. ACC Play
Every team in the conference has now played at least one game, with Syracuse (1-1) and Virginia (2-0) serving as the only teams to garner victories yet. A win on Saturday would mean that at worst, the Orange would head into the back half of the season in second place in conference play.
5. Gavin's Been a Go
After six games to start the season with a rotation in cage, Bobby Gavin has played all-60 minutes in each of the past two contests. His goals against average is now under 13 with his recent success at 12.95.
