Orange Take Down Florida State

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Cole Swider scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the first half and Syracuse (16-16) defeated Florida State (17-14) in the second round of the ACC Tournament, 96-57. The Orange advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with top-seeded Duke on Thursday, March 10, at noon.
Swider also contributed 13 rebounds to the Orange victory. Joseph Girard III had 16 points, Buddy Boeheim had 14 and Jimmy Boeheim posted 12.Â
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
With the game knotted at 8-8, Swider and Buddy Boeheim hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Syracuse never trailed again.

ORANGE FIREWORKS
Swider keyed a 17-2 run with 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. The Syracuse margin reached as many as 23 points in the first 20 minutes and the Orange entered the intermission with a 49-26 lead. Swider already had 20 points and Joseph Girard had 13 in the first half.Â
Syracuse continued its stellar offensive play after the break. A 15-2 stretch pushed the lead to 70-34. Swider was a catalyst again with six of the Orange's 15 points in the run.

SYRACUSE ZONE STYMIES FSU LONG-DISTANCE ATTACK
The Orange defense was effective against the Seminole shooters, limiting Florida State to 2-of-25 (.080) on its 3-point tries. Syracuse held FSU to 22-of-68 (.324) overall.
The Orange also out-rebounded the Seminoles, 52-35.

Syracuse will take on Duke, the top seed, in a semifinal game on Thursday, March 10 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.

- Girard converted four 3-pointers, increasing his career total to 205. He's tied with Demetris Nichols for seventh on the school's career list..
- Swider tied Bourama Sidibe for the school record for rebounds in an ACC Tournament game with his 13 boards. Sidibe recorded 13 rebounds in a 2020 ACCT matchup with North Carolina.
- Frank Anselem had a career-best nine points and equaled his career-high board effort with 15. Nine of his boards came at the offensive end.
- Symir Torrence, who missed the last two games with an injury, returned and posted nine points, his best effort with the Orange. He also had a career-high nine assists.
