Two 'Cuse stars were picked within the first 13 picks of Tuesday's Premier Lacrosse League College Draft, including a top-six pick.
Syracuse now has 69 players in program history who have been drafted to professional lacrosse, trailing just Maryland (70), for the most of any institution.
The first Orange came off the board early, with defenseman/LSM Brett Kennedy going sixth overall to the Chaos. Brendan Curry was then selected by the Atlas with the 13th pick.
The duo – and potentially any other free agent signings from this year's class – will join a long list of current Orange playing in the league. Stephen Rehfuss, who was a finalist for the Rookie of the Year last year, leads the Cannons where he's joined by Jamie Trimboli. Nate Solomon and Drake Porter. Curry will have a chance to team back up with former teammate Peter Dearth on the Atlas. Additionally, Matt Abbott is currently on the Whipsnakes roster, plus current assistant coach TD Ierlan plays for the Redwoods.
Kennedy is one of the Orange's most versatile athletes, having played both LSM and close defense in his career. He finished his SU career with 59 career caused turnovers, which ranks fifth on the program's career list. A three-time All-ACC selection and three-time All-American, Kennedy was also a team captain this season.
Curry, a three-time captain at Syracuse, concluded his career as one of the most prolific scoring midfielders ever. His 94 goals out of the midfield were the seventh most by an SU middie ever. This season, he finished with career bests of 34 goals, 19 assists and 53 points. He is a three-time All-American and was a member of the Tewaaraton Watch List this season.
The 2022 PLL season begins on Saturday, June 4 in Albany, N.Y.
