
Two Home Runs Drive Orange to a 3-1 Win Against North Carolina

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse used two home runs to send them to a 3-1 win against North Carolina. Neli Casares-Maher and Angel Jasso were responsible for the home run hits.Â
Syracuse improves to a 23-20 overall, 5-15 ACC record while North Carolina falls to a 23-26 overall, 6-16 ACC record.Â
Lindsey Hendrix pitched a complete game in the circle for the Orange, striking out five Tar Heel batters.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
A 0-0 game throughout the first three innings was broken by North Carolina in the top of the fourth. Destiny Middleton used a single up the middle to get on base. After reaching second following an error in the field, she advanced to third on a sacrifice fly from Kianna Jones and stole home to put the Tar Heels on the board.Â
Jasso nailed a leadoff, solo home run to tie the score in the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
Hendrix, with the help of the Syracuse defense, worked out of a bases loaded situation in the top of the sixth inning. The Tar Heels had three runners on but got out on three pop flies.Â
Carli Campbell led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single to the left side. Jasso came to the plate next and reached on a fielders choice, catching Campbell out at second base. Casares-Maher launched a two-run home run to deep center field to take the lead, making the score 3-1 going into the final inning.Â
Hendrix again managed to get out of a situation with two runners on base and end the game at a score of 3-1 in the top of the seventh.Â

The Orange and Tar Heels head to game two of the series on Saturday, May 7. The game will begin at 1:00 pm and will be streamed on the ACCNX. Following the conclusion of the game, the Orange will honor two of the four seniors on the roster. Casares-Maher and Campbell. Seniors Paris Woods and Ariana Adams will be honored following the series finale on Sunday.Â
