
Orange Earn ACC Tournament Bid!

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse won the final game of the weekend, 9-1, to sweep its series against North Carolina and advance to the ACC Tournament. The winner of today's game secured the spot in the league tournament in Pittsburgh this coming week. The Orange are the ninth seed and will play eighth seed Louusville on Wednesday.Â
Syracuse's record improves to 25-20 overall, 7-15 ACC while North Carolina's season ends at a 23-28 overall, 6-18 ACC record.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Back-to-back singles from Neli Casares-Maher and Kelly Breen started the Orange offense in the bottom of the first inning. Tessa Galipeau's RBI ground ball to the right side of the infield scored Casares-Maher from third to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
Rebecca Clyde breaking out with her first hit of the series, scored Carli Campbell from third in the bottom of the second. Senior Paris Woods continued the offensive rally with her single to right field and was knocked in by a triple from Angel Jasso. Casares-Maher rounded out the second inning with a base hit up the middle to add another RBI and extend the Orange lead to 4-0.Â
Two Tar Heels hits and a walk in the top of the third threatened the score but Ariana Adams worked her way out, striking out the final batter of the inning with bases loaded.Â
A bases clearing triple from Woods scored Taylor Posner, Ryan Gallegos and Campbell. The Syracuse lead was now 8-0 going into the fourth inning.Â
Kiersten Licea's leadoff solo home run put the Tar Heels on the board, marking their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.Â
The Orange ended the game with their second walk off of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jasso's solo home run to deep center field sealed the final score at 9-1.Â
