Orange to Compete at World Championship

Syracuse will be well represented at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship that gets underway on Wednesday in Towson, Maryland. Current Orange Bianca Chevarie, Maddy Baxter and Jenny Markey as well as head coach Kayla Treanor and assistant coach Kenzie Kent will join several 'Cuse alums at the 11-day event.

Chevarie and Baxter will compete for Team Canada along with former Orange Alie Jimerson '18. Treanor and Kent will be joined on Team USA by Syracuse All-Americans Becca Block '13 and Liz Hogan '11. Markey is a member of Team Germany, while 2022 graduate Jalyn Jimerson and Ally Trice '20 will represent the Haudenosaunee Nationals. In addition, Karen Healy-Silcot '02 will compete for Jamaica. Jalyn Jimerson and Healy-Silcot were recently named to USA Lacrosse Magazine's list of 30 players to watch at the World Cup.
Syracuse assistant coach Caitlin Defliese is part of the Team Canada coaching staff, as is head men's lacrosse coach Gary Gait, who is fulfilling a commitment made before taking over the helm of the Orange men's program in June 2021.
The tournament opens on Wednesday, June 29 with a showdown between the United States and Canada at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. It's a rematch of the 2017 gold medal game that the U.S. won, 10-5. The Haudenosaunee take the field on Thursday, June 30 against Japan at 2 p.m., while Germany faces Wales at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+. Following pool play, the semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, July 7 with the gold medal game slated for Saturday, July 9.
