Three Syracuse players are represented on the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List – with Matthew Bergeron, Mikel Jones and Eric Coley making the cut.
In order to be eligible for the watch list, a player must be a 2018 or earlier high school graduate and have participated in five-or-more games in each of the last three seasons, making them a true senior. The watch list does not include true or redshirt juniors who could become eligible for the Senior Bowl as Dec. 2022 (or earlier) graduates.
Bergeron, a team captain this season, was the lone offensive lineman to start every game at the same position last year for Syracuse, proving to be a consistent force for a unit that paved the way for the fifth-highest rushing total in program history in 2021. An All-ACC Honorable Mention selection last year, the Orange averaged over four yards per carry off the left tackle, which was the highest among left tackles in the ACC last season, according to ESPN Advanced Stats.
Jones is a preseason All-American and on multiple national award watch lists heading into the 2022 season. A second-year team captain, Jones was a First Team All-ACC selection in 2021. He finished second in the ACC with 110 tackles and was tops in the league in solo tackles.
Coley played in all-12 games last season, with six starts at safety. He made 26 tackles and had three pass breakups on the year. He was the team's Pat Miller Award winner, given to the 'total-package' student-athlete – a loyal and dedicated teammate who excels in the classroom and is a selfless contributor in his community.
The Senior Bowl is widely regarded as the preeminent college football all-star game and the first stage in the NFL Draft process. The longest continual-running all-star game has taken place in Mobile, Alabama the past 73 years. More than 900 NFL personnel, including key decision-makers from all 32 teams, and over 900 media members from around the country were credentialed last year. This year's game will take place on Saturday, February 4.
