SYRACUSE N.Y.- Syracuse is set to start the 2022 season against in-state foe Iona on Thursday, Aug. 25 at the SU Soccer Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission to the match is free.

'Cuse Update
Syracuse is coming off an 8-8-2 record last season. The Orange lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament in 2021 at North Carolina. 'Cuse will look to continue its home form in 2022, as it won six games at the SU Soccer Stadium last season.

Syracuse won two of its three exhibition games during the preseason. The Orange outscored their opponents 12-3 over the course of the three preseason matches.

Nine starters return from last season's squad, but the Orange will be without top goal scorer DeAndre Kerr. The former standout signed a Homegrown Player contract with Toronto FC in January.

Preseason Accolades
Senior midfielder Amferney Sinclair was named to the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Watchlist.

Senior forward Levonte Johnson was named to the United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch list. The transfer from Seattle U scored nine goals and tallied eight assists in 2021.

Scouting The Gaels
Iona is led by head coach James Hamilton. The Dominican College alum is entering his seventh as head coach of the Gaels. Hamilton led Iona to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in 2019.

Iona finished with a 6-9-2 record last season. Senior forward Camil Azzam Ruiz was selected to the 2022 Preseason All-MAAC team. Ruiz led the team in goals last season with 10.

Series History
This match will be the first time Iona and Syracuse compete in a regular-season contest.

The Orange will have a quick turn around to their next match. Syracuse takes on defending Big Ten champions and preseason No. 21 Penn State at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday Aug. 28. The match kicks off at 6 p.m. and will be televised on ACC Network.
