No. 10 Syracuse, which advanced to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, officially opens the 2022 campaign this weekend with back-to-back games against host Sacred Heart and Vermont. Friday's game is set for a 1 p.m. start, while Saturday's game time has been adjusted to 1 p.m., with both games at Yale's Johnson Field.

- Syracuse is poised to begin its 51st season of field hockey as the Orange take on Sacred Heart and Vermont Friday and Saturday at Yale's Johnson Field.

- Last season, the Orange were the only team in the ACC to advance past the first round, eliminating No. 4 Penn State 4-1 in the first round before falling 2-1 at host Maryland.

- The Orange collected 758 points, receiving one first-place vote.

- Eight Syracuse opponents were ranked in the Preseason NFHCA Poll: #2 UNC, #8 Rutgers, #9 Louisville, #12 Virginia, #13 Princeton, #14 Boston College, #18 Duke, #20 Wake Forest.
- Neither Sacred Heart nor Vermont were among the top 25 teams in this week's poll.

- Syracuse had four student-athletes named to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
- Sophomore Brooke Borzymowski (GK), graduate student Quirine Comans (F), senior Charlotte de Vries (F), and junior Eefke van den Nieuwenhof (B)
- Syracuse led the league with its four Preseason Team selections. North Carolina was the only other program with multiple selections (Erin Matson, Meredith Sholder).
- Boston College, Duke, Louisville, Virginia, and Wake Forest had one selection each.
Preseason Predicted Order of Finish
- In a poll of the ACC's seven head coaches, Syracuse was selected second in the Preseason Predicted Order of Finish.
- The Orange gathered 41 points, aided by two first-place votes.
- North Carolina was voted first with 47 points and the remaining five first-place votes.
- Boston College (27), Virginia (24), and Louisville (23) were close to round out the top five.
- Duke and Wake Forest garnered 17 points each to tie for an expected sixth-place finish.
