Syracuse (3-1-0) out-shot visiting Siena (0-3-1), 34-8, and received a shutdown performance from freshman Shea Vanderbosch in goal, to defeat the Saints, 2-0.
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
The Orange struck early when graduate student Chelsea Domond found freshman Anna Rupert in the open and Rupert scored her second goal in as many games to put Syracuse ahead, 1-0, just 8:32 into the contest. It proved to be the game-winner.
SEALING THE DEAL
Sophomore Kylen Grant and graduate student Blue Ellis joined to give Syracuse an insurance tally in the second half. Grant served it to Ellis, who redirected the ball with a header that found the net. It was the first Syracuse goal for Ellis.
BATTLE OF THE VANDERBOSCHS
Twin sisters Shea (Syracuse) and Kam (Siena) Vanderbosch met as collegiate opponents for the first time. The two freshmen enjoyed successful scholastic careers as teammates at Lancaster High School (N.Y.). Both were in the starting lineup -- Shea in goal and Kam as a back.
Shea earned her first Syracuse shutout and finished with four saves.Kam played all 90 minutes.
